Synthesis and characterisation of strontium tartrate nanoparticles with and without Triton X-100 surfactant

Abstract

Strontium tartrate was synthesised with and without Triton X-100 surfactant. Synthesis was performed by crystallisation. All crystallisation parameters were studied in details Induction time was measured under different supersaturations ranging from 9.7 to 18.1. This is the time elapsed between the achievement of supersaturation and the appearance of a solid phase. The results show that the induction time decreases exponentially with increasing the supersaturation. On the other hand, the induction time was increased with addition of Triton X-100 surfactant. In addition, the surface energy was increased with addition of Triton X-100 compared to the baseline (without Triton). Interestingly, with addition of the Triton surfactant, the precipitated crystals are larger compared with the baseline.
