Abstract

Dinitrosylmolybdenum(0) Schiff base complexes derived from 1-phenyl-3-methyl-4-benzoyl-5-pyrazolone and amines such as p-anisidine m-phenitidine, m-toluidine, o-, m- and p-phenylenediamine and benzidine were synthesised and characterised by elemental analysis, molar conductance, IR, UV-vis, 1H NMR spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry. Reactions of bi- and tetradentate Schiff base ligands with Mo(NO) 2(acac) 2 in 2:1 and 1:1 ratios, respectively, gave diamagnetic trans-molybdenum(0) mononuclear complexes with the general formula trans-Mo(NO) 2(L) 2 (L = bidentate Schiff bases), trans-Mo(NO) 2(L 1) (L 1 = tetradentate Schiff base with o- and m-phenylenediamine) and the ligand-bridged dinuclear complexes trans-[Mo(NO) 2(L 2)] 2 (L 2 = tetradentate Schiff base with p-phenylenediamine and benzidine).
