Abstract

Acrylic latices functionalised with ionic monomers, methacrylic and 2-acrylamido-2-methyl-propane-sulfonic acids were prepared using classical semi-batch and sequential two-step polymerisation techniques. The influence of the method of polymerisation on the characteristics of the synthesised latices and their corresponding polymer films is presented and discussed. The more ordered polymeric structures obtained by a sequential process showed unique properties and could be useful in several applications.
