Abstract
The ary lamides of phenyl-n-propylglyeol ic acid (li, Table 1) fo rm in a yield of up to 75% in the reac t ion of compounds I with n -propylmagnes ium iodide. These then cyelize under the influence of 80% su l fu r i eac id to derivat ives of 3-n.-propyl-3-phenyloxindole (liI, Table 2). The s t ructure of compounds 11I was proved by an al ternate synthesis in the ease of 3-n-propyl.3-phenyloxindole (ilia) and also by IIR spect ra l data. Ac cording to a method descr ibed previously, Ilia was p repared by the react ion of n-propyl iodide with 3-phenyl oxindole (IV, R=H).
