Abstract

Multicomponent reaction among substituted isothiocyanate, hydrazine hydrate, and naphthalene-1-carbaldehyde in the presence of the phase transfer reagent Triton-B and subsequently heating lead to the formation of (Phenyl)-1-((naphthalen-5-yl)methylenethiosemicarbazide. Anticancer screening of the synthesized compound against prostate cancer cells PC3 showed that compound 2 ((Z)-4-(2-fluorophenyl)-1-((naphthalen-5-yl)methylene)thiosemicarbazide), 4 ((Z)-4-(2-chlorophenyl)-1-((naphthalen-5-yl)methylene)thiosemicarbazide) and 12 exhibited appreciable inhibitions on the PC3 cells. Next step evaluation of compounds on flow cytometry for apoptotic behavior revealed significant apoptosis of cancer cells by compound 12 i.e. (Z)-4-(4-chlorophenyl)-1-((naphthalen-5-yl)methylene)thiosemicarbazide which necessitates its further exploration.
