Abstract
Based on the geometrical relations between the pole of the coupler and the joints of a mechanism, the present paper derives some basic equations and constructs compatible equations to synthesize planar and spherical path generators. In addition to the synthesis of path generators to generate curves passing through finitely separated points, the basic equations are further differentiated to synthesize path generators to generate curves passing through infinitesimally separated points. Examples under various given conditions are illustrated to show the elegance of the pole method.
