Abstract

Four new (VIII, IX, X and XI) and six known polycondensed quinolines as well as two new (IVa and VIa) and one known polycondensed methylquinolines, have been prepared by modified Skraup and Doebner-von Miller reactions, using polycyclic aromatic acetamides as starting material. Yields of 40–80% were obtained in all but one case (X:10 %). The UV spectra of the new products have been recorded in cyclohexane (Figs. 2, 3, 4 and 5).
