Abstract

Two new cadmium(II) carboxylate–phosphinates, namely [Cd(HL)2] (1) and [Cd(L)(phen)(H2O)]·2H2O (2) (H2L = 2-(carboxyethyl)(phenyl)phosphinic acid, phen = 1,10-phenanthroline), have been synthesized and characterized. Complex 1 features a two-dimensional layer structure containing two types of dimeric ring motifs, which are further assembled into a three-dimensional supramolecular network via C–H···π interactions. Complex 2 shows a discrete dimer structure, and such dimers are linked through hydrogen bonds and π···π stacking interactions into a three-dimensional supramolecular network. The thermal stabilities and luminescent properties of complexes 1 and 2 have been studied. Two new cadmium(II) carboxylate–phosphinates, [Cd(HL)2] (1) and [Cd(L)(phen)(H2O)]·2H2O (2), have been synthesized and characterized. Complex 1 features a two-dimensional layer structure containing two types of dimeric ring motifs, while 2 shows a discrete dimer structure.
