Syntheses and Structures of Manganese Complexes of Borane−Lewis Base Adducts, [CpMn(CO)2(η1-BH3·L)] (L = NMe3, PMe3)

Abstract

Photolysis of [CpMn(CO)3] in the presence of BH3·L (L = NMe3, PMe3) produced borane σ complexes, 1a and 1b. These compounds were characterized by X-ray crystallography. The bonding between the borane ligand and metal is considerably different from those of other σ complexes. It consists of electron donation from the BH σ orbital to metal exclusively, and back-donation into the BH σ* orbital is negligible.
