Abstract

Stepwise alkylation of diethylcyclopentadiene as well as the reaction of 2,3,4,5-tetraethylcyclopent-2-enone with ethylmagnesiumbromide result in formation of pentaethylcyclopentadiene. Tri-, tetra- and pentaethylcyclopentadienides were synthesized by metalation with sodium amide or n-butyllithium and converted to ferrocenes [(η 5-C 5Et n H 5−n) 2Fe] and molybdenum complexes [(η 5-C 5Et n H 5 −n )Mo(CO) 3CH 3].
