Abstract

AbstractSynthesis and Crystal Structure of Na3[W3Cl13]A solid state reaction of tungsten(IV)chloride and sodium chloride yielded black plate‐like crystals of Na3[W3Cl13]. The structure of this compound was determined by single crystal X‐ray diffraction. Na3[W3Cl13] crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P 21/c with a = 9.093(1) Å, b = 23.851(4) Å, c = 9.155(1) Å, β = 120.26(1)°, and Z = 4. The crystal structure contains trigonal tungsten clusters ($\rm ({\bar d}_{w.w} = 2.737(1)\AA)$ = 2.737(1) Å) surrounded by chlorine atoms. The molecular [W3(μ3‐Cl)(μ‐Cl)3Cl9]3− cluster anions are forming layers parallel to the ac‐plane, sodium ions are located in and in between the layers.
