Abstract

Two homologous series of DL-2,3-dialkoxy-propionic acid alkylesters with ester moieties ranging from 8 to 22 C-atoms and ether chains having 12 and 16 C-atoms have been synthesised. The thermal behavior and the infrared spectra of these compounds were investigated. All compounds occur in two polymorphic forms. According to former observations of relatioships between structure and polymorphism the DL-2,3-didodecyloxy-propionic acid esters with ester alkyl moieties having 20 or more C-atoms were found to occur in three polymorphic forms. The infrared spectra of the polymorphic crystals showed characteristic differences in the region between 1400 and 650 cm −1 in accordance with the thermal data. The ether esters described here were not hydrolyzed by pancreatic lipase.
