Abstract

Metallation of thiols R FC 2H 4SH followed by alkylation with iodides R′ FC 2H 4I leads either to symmetrical or to unsymmetrical sulphides R FC 2H 4SC 2H 4R′ F (with R F=R′ F or R F ≠ R′ F). All compounds obtained are good solvents of gases (particularly O 2, CO, CO 2, N 2).This property allows their application as biological carriers of dissolved gases.
