Abstract
Syntax, along with semantics and phonology, is a basic component of language. The relation between syntactic processes and the brain is the focus of this article. The neurotopological data suggest that the left inferior frontal gyrus as well as the anterior portion of the superior temporal gyrus are involved in syntactic processes. The electrophysiological data are in support of a two-phase syntactic processing view consisting of an early phase of initial structure building and a late phase of syntactic integration, including processes of syntactic reanalysis and repair.
