Abstract

Synovial lipomatosis is a rare form of arthropathy which involves most commonly the knee joint and occasionally other joints. The pathogenesis is not well understood, and its development is conventionally attributed to long standing irritation. Clinical manifestations vary widely, from asymptomatic or indolent presentation to progressive joint swelling or pain. Incidental detection on imaging may raise concerns for a destructive neoplasm. MRI and macroscopic features correlate characteristically.
