Abstract
A description of the diurnal and latitudinal variations in the 6300 Å nightglow intensity, as determined during an expedition along the Pacific coast of South America, is presented. The 6300 Å excitation pattern exhibits a symmetric region of enhanced intensity centered about the midnight meridian and 7.5°S latitude. A relationship between the location of the anti-solar point and the occurrence of equatorial midnight enhancements in the 6300 Å intensity is suggested.
