Abstract

Potential opportunities for synergies between water security research and water quality management for distribution systems exist when water security technology is implemented so that the results support water quality applications and users are aware of the limitations of various approaches. This article discusses recent advances in three security research categories related to contamination warning systems that are relevant to water quality management: online monitoring; software; and, policies/procedures. The article provides an overview of different categories of security research along with the input data required, maturity of the technology, and applicability of the technology to management of water quality in distribution systems.
