Abstract

The extraction of zinc with 1-phenyl-3-methyl-4-benzoyl pyrazolone-5 (PMBP) solutions in different organic diluents has been investigated. The chelate Zn A 2 is extracted, where A is the anion of PMBP. Extraction constants have been determined. A noticeable synergistic effect has been found in zinc extraction with PMBP by a mixture of isoamyl alcohol and benzene. A strong synergistic effect is observed when tri- n-butyl phosphate (TBP) and tri- n-octyl phosphine oxide (TOPO) are added to a PMBP solution in benzene or other “inert” diluents. In this case adducts of ZnA 2 · TBP and ZnA 2 · TOPO are extracted; the extraction constants of these complexes and the formation constants in the organic phase have been determined.
