Abstract

Herein, we investigate the synergic effect of carbon nanotubes (CNT) in conjunction with mechanical load applied in early stage of cell cultivation to accelerate differentiation in bone cells. To improve their biofunctionality, CNT were functionalized with carboxyl groups and RGD peptide. The effect of CNT functionalization on cell proliferation and formation of cell aggregates with hastened production of calcium deposits was studied with and MG63 cell lines in static and dynamic conditions. Combination of CNT with mechanical load promoted significantly higher osteogenic marker expression and formation of calcium deposits in comparison to the control, particularly in case of MSC.
