Abstract

A semiclassical model for emission of bosons in high-energy hadron collisions is proposed, based on an analogy with electromagnetic radiation from a radially accelerated moving charge. A simple assumption concerning the shape of the effective classical trajectories leads to absolute predictions with no free parameters for reactions such as $\mathrm{pp}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\mathrm{pp}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0}$ and $\mathrm{pp}\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\mathrm{pn}{\ensuremath{\pi}}^{+}$. These predictions are in good agreement with available experimental data in the region of validity of the model, which is confined to relatively large momentum transfers.
