Abstract

Thermally deposited coatings of Hydroxylapatite (Ca5(PO4)3OH) have been examined using the X-ray powder diffraction facility on station 2.3 at DRAL. The patterns have been analysed by full profile fitting techniques and the line-broadening interpreted by Williamson-Hall plots. The results indicate significant direction dependant lattice strains which are at a minimum in the basal plane and increase with increasing l-indexs. These anisotropic strains arise as a result of the high thermal gradients and rapid recrystallisation of the Hydroxylapatite during the preparation process.
