Abstract

This paper proposes the Eigensystem Realization (ER) to estimate dynamic phasors. Synchrophasor estimates such as amplitude, phase, frequency and rate of change of amplitude are provided in one-cycle. Thus, a new ER-based phasor estimator has been proposed and assessed under steady-state and dynamic conditions in theoretical and actual signals coming from a commercial PMU. This paper compares the performance of ER-based phasor estimates method with that of the well-known Discrete Fourier Transform. Finally, the results exhibit that the proposed phasor estimator attains reliable estimates even though under polluted conditions by high harmonic content, being able to tracking the changes in amplitude, phase and frequency.
