Abstract
Apreviously healthy 74-year-old man with a 1-month history of painless gross hematuria was admitted. He had been a heavy smoker for 50 years and had no history of analgesic abuse or family history of urothelial transitional cell carcinoma (TCC). His initial physical examination and laboratory data were grossly normal, except for the hematuria in his urinary analysis (erythrocytes greater than 100/high power field). The urine cytology was negative for malignancy.
