Abstract

High voltage direct current power system needs large-capability reactive power compensation facilities for voltage stability in the receiving end. Synchronous condenser (SC) can be used in this application, and SC parameters estimation can provide the equipment condition monitoring. In this paper, a six-order SC model is employed and transient power disturbances which is located by lifting wavelet transform (LWT) are used for the parameter estimation. Then By particle swarm optimization (PSO), the parameter estimation of SC is obtained. The proposed method runs on MATLAB/Simulink simulation which is based on real 300 Mvar SC in China, and the results verifies the effectiveness of the method for SC parameters estimation and provide a useful way to monitor the SC failures.
