Abstract

The synchronisation of a 192 GHz optical pulse train, generated from a colliding pulse modelocked laser diode, to an electrical signal is successfully demonstrated by a phase-locked loop that uses optical modulation sidebands. The synchronisation is confirmed by a synchro-scan streak camera and the timing jitter is estimated to be 0.6 ps from the RF line spectrum of the beat note between the high-order sidebands generated by 40 GHz electroabsorption modulation.
