Abstract
Numerous specimens of Synaptiphilus Canu & Cuenot, 1892 (Copepoda, Clausiidae) parasitic upon the apodous holothurian Oestergrenia digitata were collected in the vicinity of Banyuls during the summer of 1963. Though similar in some respects to S. luteus and S. tridens, they have been assigned as a new subspecies (S. cantacuzenei mixtus ssp. n.) to S. cantacuzenei, a form from which they may be distinguished by longer and more numerous spines on both body and appendages, by the shape of the female maxillipeds, and by the dimensions of various parts, e.g. lengths of endopods of the first four pairs of legs. This new subspecies becomes the fourth in a series of parasitic forms whose morphological and taxonomic relationships parallel those of their corresponding host species. It has probably diverged from the three sympatric forms as a result of recent geographical isolation.
