Abstract

Exo- and endocytosis are accompanied by changes in membrane capacitance. Capacitance measurements in synaptic terminals have proven recently to be a useful adjunct to other techniques in examining presynaptic mechanisms. New information has emerged from these studies about the size and dynamics of synaptic vesicle pools, about the Ca 2+ dependence of the rate of exocytosis, and about the kinetics of endocytosis in synaptic terminals.
