Abstract
Abstract π-Extended indacene dione and its bis(dicyanomethylidene) (BDCM) derivative bearing a naphthalene unit were first synthesized by the reaction of benzamides with 3,6-dilithio-2,7-di(phenylethynyl)naphthalene. X-ray crystallographic analyses of the dione and BDCM reveal nearly planar fused ring systems. The BDCM exhibits high electron affinity and n-type semiconducting behavior.
