Abstract

Purpose: Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) is a safe autologous blood product containing high levels of growth factors and cytokines with potential to alter biological processes implicated in osteoarthritis (OA) pathogenesis and symptoms. Most clinical guidelines do not recommend PRP for knee OA due to lack of high-quality evidence on efficacy but emphasize the need for rigorous studies. Despite this, the use of PRP in knee OA is increasing.
