Abstract
The publication of the ICRC’s Study on Customary International Humanitarian Law is a major development in one of the central areas of interest for Journal of Conflict & Security Law. It was thus decided that the Study should be the focus of a roundtable discussion, which was held by the Centre for Conflict and Security Law in Nottingham in October 2005. The following papers were delivered and discussed at the roundtable. With one exception, they are published here in the order they were presented in Nottingham. The exception is Iain Scobbie’s paper on the concept of custom adopted in the Study and early responses to it, which will be published in a forthcoming issue of the Journal. It is hoped that the papers contribute to informed debate on the Study. Thanks go to Cambridge University Press for its support for the event.
