Abstract

This is an excellent review of the congenital ocular anomalies commonly and uncommonly seen by the clinician, for whom this will be a most useful reference work. Following a review of practical genetics by Dr. Falls, the late Dr. Franceschetti discusses certain hereditary skin and corneal affections, the dysostoses and neuro-ophthalmic disease. Dr. Francois then elaborates on the corneal dystrophies, errors of metabolism, and the heredity of tumors. Dr. Goodman discusses sickle cell disease and the night blinding anomalies. Dr. Scheie's views on congenital cataract and glaucoma are presented, as are Dr. Beard's methods of handling lid, lacrimal, and orbital anomalies. Finally, Dr. Krill offers a resume of the hereditary macular and retinal degenerations. To those interested in the frequently obscure problems in ocular genetics, this volume is highly recommended.
