Abstract
Symposium on Archaeometry The Groupe des Methodes Physiques et Chimiques de l'Archeologie announces a Symposium on Archaeometry to be held in Paris, 26-29 March, 1980. General topics will include physico-chemical analysis, metallurgy, dating methods, prospection, numerical data analysis and allied techniques. Themes sessions are planned on: dendrochronology; the datation in the range 40,000-100,000 B.P.; the definition and the survey of the limits of archaeological sites; and the determination of the provenance of ceramics. The ultimate choice will depend on the number of papers and their taking into account the archaeological implications of the problems. Early contact with the Symposium Secretary is highly recommended. Registration forms and programs will be available early in January: please notice that in the aim of reducing a considerably increasing mailing list, the forms will be sent systematically to people who have attended the two last Symposiums (Bonn 1978, London 1979), but on request only for other people on application to the Symposium Secretary, C. R. G. Garchy, 58150 Pouilly sur Loire France. As it may be necessary to limit numbers, early registration is·advised. The Registration Fee is likely to be about FF. 200. Accommodations will be arranged in Halls of Residence and hotels in the vicinity of the Ecole Normale Superieure, 45 rue d'Ulm (near the Palais du Luxembourg) where the sessions will be held. The cost of this accommodation is expected to be from 50 FF. per day per person for bed and breakfast only. Intended speakers are asked to submit a short abstract before 15 December 1979. The abstract should be a perfect copy to facilitate printing. The following information should be included: (i) authors' names and addresses, underlining the speaker's name; (ii) title of paper; (iii) maximum and minimum speaking times; (iv) whether or not they wish to have their paper published (see below). Since the program will be finalized on 10 January 1980 it is particularly requested that withdrawals or changes be made before that date. Abstracts and details should be addressed to the Symposium Secretary at the address given above. Since a positive attempt will be made to reduce the number of parallel sessions at the Symposium, it may be necessary to restrict the speaking time to 15 minutes per paper (except possibly for those papers included in the theme sessions) and to limit each participant to one paper. If the number of papers exceeds the available speaking time, a system of refereeing will be introduced. Publication. For interested speakers, it will be possible to publish the papers presented at the Symposium in the nO4 and 5 of the Revue d' A rcheometrie.
