Abstract

The prevalence of obesity is growing at an alarming rate, among both children and adults, with the steepest rise in the severe and morbidly obese category. Even the developing countries are not immune to the universal phenomenon. Presently, the number of overweight and obese individuals exceeds the number of undernourished patients across the world. In addition to cosmetic concerns, obesity brings along with it not only a number of other diseases such as hypertension, diabetes, and cancer but also reduced longevity. It is thus not surprising that as the epidemic of obesity grows, so does the quest for the “cure.”
