Successive plates in the zones north of - 75 overlap by 50% in right ascension; for the stars south of -75 there is an overlap of 50% in declination and even stronger overlapping in right ascension. All plates measure 17X 17 inches and cover an area 11 by 11 . The measurements are progressing both at the Yale Observatory and at the Watson Research Laboratory. The reference star positions are being furnished by the Cape Observatory through the courtesy of Dr. R. H. Stoy. For the plates between -70 and - 90 declination the plan is to strengthen the plate solutions by taking full advantage of the abundant overlapping. Dr. H. Eichhorn of Wesleyan University has made a detailed study of this aspect of the program and Dr. A. R. Klemola is participating in the project.
