Abstract
Heintze Michał Adam, Symphonia i symphoniacus u Petroniusza – analiza semantyczna (Symphonia and symphoniacus – semantic analysis in Petronius).In this article the author discusses the meaning of words „symphonia” and „symphoniacus” in the Satyricon of Petronius. The semantic analysis of the words is based on dictionaries and examples from latin literature.The most important dictionary for this paper was Lexicon totius Latinitatis of E. Forcellini. Even today this Lexicon is a very usefull philological tool.

28, 5 „... ad caput eius cum minimis symphoniacus tibiis accessit, et tamquam in aurem aliquid secreto diceret, toto itinere cantavit”. Wyraz symphoniacus w tekście Uczty Petroniusza Arbitra został użyty tylko raz, natomiast sześć razy pojawia się słowo pokrewne: symphonia. Że termin pojawia się tylko w dziełach oratorskich. Piąty i ostatni fragment u Cycerona dotyczący słowa symphoniacus pochodzi z mowy Pro Milone Jeśli ktoś zabije jednego symphoniacus, nie jest winny tylko jego śmierci, lecz obniżenia wartości i ceny całej grupy Z tej inskrypcji dowiadujemy się, że symphoniaci nie należeli tylko do zamożnych osób prywatnych, ale także – jako kolegium – brali czynny udział w uświetnianiu uroczystości publicznych.
