Abstract
Birefringence study was performed on triangular lattice antiferromagnets CsNiBr 3, CsNiCl 3 and CsCoCl 3. A cusp in the temperature dependence of birefringence was observed at T N of the Ni 2+ systems. This singularity is attributed to the breaking of axial magnetic symmetry in the ordered state on their lattice.
