Abstract

The theory of mixed state symmetry of superconductors with anisotropic pairing is developed. Such a theory employs the symmetric Landau approach to the second order phase transitions for the case of the normal metal-superconductor transition in a magnetic field. It is shown that in most cases the Abrikosov vortex lattice near H c2 has the hexagonal structure. The transformation properties of such a lattice under translations and rotations are derived. From these the mixed state phase classification for unconventional superconductors is determined. The implication of such ideas for the phase transitions in UPt 3 is discussed.
