Abstract

Unnecessary Young's fringes due to symmetry error in the speckle distribution, and their influence on the desired interferogram in a scatter plate interferometer are discussed and it is found that symmetry errors cause the decrease of fringe contrast. This difficulty can be avoided by narrowing the aperture of the scatter plate, and a condition to determine the appropriate aperture of the scatter plate is proposed.
