Abstract

By introducing an infinitesimally small source term into the hamiltonian describing the system, one defines the notion of symmetry breaking average (quasi-average). From this modified hamiltonian the Pines field theoretical equations for superconductivity are derived. The importance of the divergence of the t-matrix (describing repeated scattering of two particles with opposite momenta and spin) is pointed out.
