Abstract
Second harmonic generation (SHG) is used to probe the coexisting ferroelectric and antiferromagnetic orders in hexagonal YMnO3. SH contributions coupling to the electric and/or magnetic order parameters are identified on the basis of the symmetries of the corresponding order parameters and the spectral dependence. The SH signal from the ferroelectric and antiferromagnetic orders were employed to image the electric and magnetic domain structures and investigate the mutual coupling.
