Abstract

Abstract The Life of St. Nephon (BHG 1371z) has been written between 970 and 992 and became extremely popular immediately after its publication. Therefore, it could become accessible to Symeon the New Theologian very soon after his conversion to spiritual life. The peculiar combination of ecstatic confessions of abominable sins and the simultaneous confidence in his divine chosenness, characteristic of the Life of Nephon, influenced Symeon and became the main style of self-representation in his writings.
