SY5-1 - The progress and future issues of the education project for human resources in cancer medicine and care

Abstract

In order to solve the deficiencies of human resources in cancer medicine and care, the education project had been performed from 2007 and ended in March, 2017. Sponsored by Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, 15 groups of 100 universities participated in this project and education for the cancer professionals was implemented everywhere in Japan. As a result, the number of cancer professionals increased steadily and they have been working in cancer special hospitals. We established the joint council of 100 universities for cancer education in order to the promotion of the project through the collaboration and cooperation one another. Especially in these 2 years we have been lobbying to demand the continuous support of the project since education requires long time support and another educational support for novel professionals should be needed. Eventually a novel project, in which specialists for genome medicine, pediatric cancer and rare cancer and also professionals for life-stage care to cancer patients, is starting from 2017 for 5 years. However, we should perform education for cancer professionals without official financial support. I would like to report the history and discuss the future issues of the project.
