Abstract

Scott Johnson L.A.C. will follow Tsukasa Mizusawa's comments by presenting data on the following subjects as they pertain to the U.S.: Common topics shared by Japan and the U.S.: We share the same illness. Scope of the problem in U.S.: Data on socio-economic effects of addiction on addicts, families, children and society at large. Differences between Japan and the U.S. are presented. U.S. Addiction Treatment process. Differences between Japanese and U.S. mutual help support groups. Comparison between Japanese cultural and religious connections and western spirituality. Conclusion. Although we share the same illness, Japanese cultural differences must be considered when implementing evidence based treatment modalities. Scott Johnson L.A.C. will present a brief history of what he has done to support this effort. Scott Johnson L.A.C. will then state our intentions for the future. Create a research data base to inform culturally sensitive treatment modalities. Draw upon our past efforts and current research to improve culturally sensitive treatment modalities. Offer training in evidence based culturally sensitive treatment modalities. Work for the establishment of Japanese laws protecting confidentiality of the medical records. Scott Johnson L.A.C. will join the three in a call for support by the audience.
