Abstract

Based on the results of the RTOG 95-01 trial, EORTC 22931 trial, and their integrated analysis, ‘microscopically positive margin’ and ‘extra-nodal extension’ in pathological findings have been recognized as high-risk features of postoperative recurrence in locally-advanced head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (LA-HNSCC). From these data, postoperative chemoradiotherapy with high-dose cisplatin (triweekly administration of 100 mg/m2: HD-CRT) showed the risk reduction of recurrence in LA-HNSCC patients with postoperative high-risk features.
