Abstract

Introduction. The NRC established in 2002 as an inpatient residential center to treat patients with addiction. In 2010 the NRC witnessed expansion of services when the current administration started to develop treatment services programs designed on evidence based practice/best practice for different sectors and special at risk groups Method. Developing ambulatory outpatient services and triaging patients using Assist MI and providing relapse prevention program based on the Matrix model. Expanding the inpatient services from 12 to 120 beds, diversified treatments ranging from Detoxification to motivational programs in a continuity of care model taking into consideration the UAE diversified cultural needs. Introduction of electronic medical record system in 2012. These efforts were assisted by international partnerships with reputable bodies like Mclean Harvard Hospital and Matrix Institute among others. Results. Services expansion, introduction of new treatment have led to increasing number of patients seeking treatment from 433 in 2009 to 1633 in 2014. Most patients have the diagnosis of polysubstance dependence mainly opioid synthetics & prescription drugs. Utilizing electronic medical records system has helped with streamlining the documentation of medical records and keeping tracks of admission trends over time. Outcomes proved to be improving with relapse rates ranging between 34%–43%.
