Abstract

Isolated medial dislocation of the Chopart joint through the articulation between the talonavicular and calcaneocuboid joints is a rare condition, especially dislocation of talonavicular joint without associated subtalar joint dislocation, which is referred to as swiveltype dislocation. Early recognition and treatment is necessary to avoid instability, deformity, and significant long-term foot complications. We report the case of a patient with isolated dislocation of the talonavicular joint, where the entrapped talus head had buttonholed through the 3rd and 4th extensor digitorum brevis muscles. After open reduction and internal fixation with Kirschner wires, the patient recovered well, with only mild midfoot stiffness over the 6 months following the injury.
