Abstract

This essay briefly describes the kinds of domestic and international terrorism experienced by Switzerland over the past several decades. While the domestic terrorism was primarily low‐level violence, Switzerland has experienced some significant international incidents. The primary Swiss link with international terrorism is as a logistical base for arms traffic and money laundering, as well as being a transit station to neighbouring countries. The article also describes the special anti‐terrorist groups in Switzerland, noting that, unlike other Western nations, no national unit exists.
