Abstract

Binding interactions of 5-amino-2-mercaptobenzimidazole (AMB) to Mn3O4 nanoparticles have been studied by absorption and fluorescence spectral studies. The hausmannite, Mn3O4 nanoparticles have been synthesized by chemical methods and characterized by using powder XRD and HR-SEM with EDX studies. The binding interaction of AMB with Mn3O4 nanoparticles is confirmed by SEM, EDX, and FT-IR studies. Fluorescence enhancement has been observed due to electron transfer between AMB and Mn3O4 nanoparticles. Furthermore, the room temperature magnetic properties of modified and unmodified Mn3O4 nanoparticles studied using VSM measurements. The results of VSM studies show the paramagnetic behaviour in both the samples; however, the saturation magnetization of functionalized nanoparticles decreased to some extent, which proves the effective binding of AMB on Mn3O4 nanoparticles.
