Abstract

The articles on Swedish Social Democracy by Kenneth Hermele and David Vail in Monthly Review (March and October, 1993) are typical of a pervasive tendency to describe the political economy of Sweden as a special case. But the "Swedish model" is not qualitatively distinct from other manifestations of capitalism, and the role of the Swedish Social Democrats (SAP, Socialdemokratiska Arbetarpartiet) has not been qualitatively different from that of other Social Democratic parties in Western Europe. This article can also be found at the Monthly Review website, where most recent articles are published in full.Click here to purchase a PDF version of this article at the Monthly Review website.
