Abstract
The injection nozzle of a Diesel engine is a highly loaded component of central importance. Its design has a significant effect on the engine’s combustion and thus on emissions and fuel consumption. At MAN Diesel the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) Algorithm, a new process for configuring injection nozzles, is being used, in which the natural behaviour of animal swarms is imitated.
